Why Quirky Failed — Lessons learned
There has been a lot of chatter in the startup community about a company you may not have heard of. Quirky, which makes Wink (a major player in the smart home space), raised over $180MM over the course of six years from prominent investors and then filed for bankruptcy on September 22, 2015.
Quirky has been in USA an important player in the Maker movement and it was an attemptative to make a service business, besides a home automation product, around it.
Which are the main failure reasons? According to Medium:
- Bad Business Model
- Wink, the home automation device, wasn’t really great
- Too many products launched (nearly 50 in a year)
- Products were bad
- Poor customer validation
