As a librarian having built and modified a previous incarnation of this scanner, I must say it is certainly a very interesting opportunity for schools and libraries looking for an educational project. Libraries who have to meet trade and quality standards in material, file formats etc. however, should think twice about a book scanner essentialy made of wood, running on home crafted software and producing JPG images as original output. But don’t just take my word for it: consult the forum on http://diybookscanner.org to immerse yourself in this fascinating endeavour.
